Under the PM Gati Shakti initiative, Indian Railways is developing corridors like the Energy Metal Cement Corridor and High Traffic Density Corridors. These projects, with an initial investment of $130 billion, aim to reduce logistics costs and environmental impact. Additionally, advancements in signaling technology, including automatic signaling and the KAVACH Train Collision Avoidance System, are ensuring safer and more efficient operations.

 

Economic Impact

With 100% FDI permitted in the sector, Indian Railways has attracted $1.40 billion in FDI between April 2023 and March 2024. By 2050, India is projected to account for 40% of global rail activity, underscoring the sector’s potential as a driver of economic growth.
